Serv-U makes a vast array of features available to the user that ensures the administrator has full control over their FTP server. To learn more about how Serv-U achieves this level of functionality, choose one of the options below.
New in Serv-U™
Windows User NT-SAM/Active Directory
Serv-U focuses on the needs of our Corporate customers by adding Windows User NT-SAM / Active Directory support. If you're supporting FTP transfers in a corporate environment you can now use Serv-U to support your users with little or no configuration changes. Simply install Serv-U, create a new Windows User domain, and Serv-U is supporting all of your Windows user's FTP needs.
ODBC Database Support
Serv-U now supports integration with ODBC databases. This addition makes it easy to import large user databases in to Serv-U while maintaining the server computer's current infrastructure for maintaining the user database and settings.
XCRC Support
Nothing's worse than successfully completing the download of a file from a server that doesn't work! It forces you to begin the arduous process of figuring out if the download was corrupted or if the source file has a problem. With XCRC command support, you can quickly verify that the file you downloaded/uploaded is identical to the source file.
Asymmetric Bandwidth Throttling
Internet connections are rarely symmetric in terms of speeds so why should a server assume they are? With Serv-U, you can now specify separate bandwidth throttling levels for upload and download speeds.
User Level SSL Control
Not every FTP user is created equal and no software knows that better than Serv-U! With the added ability to require an SSL connection for specific user accounts, you can ensure that "superusers" who connect to your server maintain a high level of security without forcing every other user to adapt as well.
Speed Enhancements
Serv-U contains a variety of performance enhancements that makes Serv-U faster than ever. We've tweaked and improved code that speeds up connections and improves various cached data elements.

Interface Features
One Window Access
Serv-U is controlled from a single window that eliminates the clutter of multiple popup windows to complete an action. A single click changes the content of the window to specific subject matter that is broken down further. Multiple tabs put you another click away from quickly finding the specific information you need.
Remote Administration
Remote administration of Serv-U gives you the flexibility and power to administer Serv-U from any Windows computer connected to the Internet. Using a separate executable program on this computer enables you to do anything to your Serv-U FTP servers and domains as if you were on the same computer. There's no need to use "remote PC access" programs or time consuming and error prone editing of the Serv-U INI file.
Real-Time Information
Serv-U gives you the ability to monitor your FTP server in real-time. This means you can monitor each user connected to your server and gather detailed information about them (download speed, last command, idle time) immediately and up-to-date. Changes you make to your server/domains take effect immediately and their effects can then be monitored without waiting. Fast, accurate, and up-to-date...that's the Serv-U advantage.
Context Sensitive Help
Serv-U contains context sensitive help that enables you to get immediate answers to your questions about an option or feature. Simply pressing F1 from anywhere in Serv-U will take you to detailed information about the window in question containing step-by-step guides, things to look for, answers to common questions, and screenshots.

Serv-U Security
Security has never been more important in file transfers. Serv-U takes this into account and offers you the following.

* OTP S/Key User ID and Password Encryption
* Require SSL connections for specific user accounts (NEW in 5.0!)
Site Administration
Serv-U includes numerous tools to help you administer your FTP server. Here's some of the more useful administrator tools:
* Quotas give you control over how much a user/group uploads and downloads.
* User defined anti-hammering parameters prevents wasting bandwidth on repeated attempts to connect to your server.
* Throttling the bandwidth allowed for a user/group lets you assign your bandwidth to higher priority users.
* Individual bandwidth throttling for different upload & download limits. (NEW in 5.0!)
* Ratios can be setup for size or files across a single or all session to ensure users upload/download first.
User & Group Administration
Groups enable you to assign directory access rules and IP restrictions to users quickly and with little effort. With Serv-U, you can:
* Limit the maximum number of users allowed on your FTP server.
* Disable a user account with the click of a button.
* Have Serv-U automatically delete an account on a specific day (great for temporary accounts).
* Assign a unique login message to each user.

* Serv-U easily supports computers with multiple IP addresses.
* The supported "resume" command lets users continue an interrupted upload/download eliminating wasted connection time and bandwidth.
* Customizable logs let you decide what information is logged for each user on each of your FTP servers. Logs can be rotated never, daily weekly, monthly, or yearly. You can even customize the rotated log file's name!

Real-time Compression
Need to get more performance on your uploads and downloads? Serv-U supports on-the-fly data compression which can improve the transfer rates on many files by over 50%!

Accurate Time and Date Stamping
When a file is uploaded through an FTP client, the time and date are usually set to the time of the upload, permanently erasing the correct time and date. When you use FTP Voyager to transfer files to Serv-U, the local time and date stamp are automatically retained.
Status of Server-to-Server Transfers
Server-to-server transfer (FXP) is a great feature of the FTP protocol, but standard FTP client-server connections are unable to display the status of FXP. With FTP Voyager and Serv-U 2.4b or higher, you'll see the detailed status of FXP.
Extended Directory Listings
Most UNIX style servers don't show the times of files older than 6 months. When FTP Voyager is connected to Serv-U, you'll automatically get the complete and accurate date and time for every file.
Password Encryption
The most sensitive data you'll ever transfer during an FTP session is your password. Doesn't it make sense that this should be the most secure? Serv-U and FTP Voyager use S/KEY password encryption that ensures your password is transferred in an encrypted and secure state.
Change Server Passwords
When using FTP Voyager to connect to Serv-U, you may* have the ability to change your account password!
